{"id":632,"date":"2019-01-23T13:44:23","date_gmt":"2019-01-23T13:44:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dennisrecipes.morgeneggs.com\/?p=632"},"modified":"2024-01-11T00:13:39","modified_gmt":"2024-01-11T00:13:39","slug":"pie-dough-great-grandma-morgenegg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dennisrecipes.morgeneggs.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/23\/pie-dough-great-grandma-morgenegg\/","title":{"rendered":"Pie Dough (Pie Crust) &#8211; Great Grandma Morgenegg"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1\/2 teaspoon salt<\/li><li>1 cup shortening<\/li><li>2 cups flour<\/li><li>4-5 Tablespoons cold water<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sift the flour and salt together, then cut in the shortening with two knives or a pastry blender until the shortening is in small pieces about the size of large peas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Add the water (make sure it is cold, Grandpa Morgenegg always added ice to it to make it cold) and stir just enough to mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roll out on floured surface.  Roll up to place in pan.  If the dough breaks when first rolled out it won&#8217;t hurt to gather it up again and roll it out once more.  Sometimes the first rolling is hard to handle. Fill with desired filling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the top do the same thing.  When you have it on top cut slices in it for the steam to escape.  Seal the edges with finger and thumb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bake at 475 for 8-10 minutes if cooking an empty pie shell.
